Lake Forest, CA – Beyond GREEN, LLC., the U.S.-based manufacturer and parent company behind bioDOGradable Bags released a list of some of the municipalities making efforts to reduce and prevent single-use plastic bag pollution by using their Non-PLA, Non-PE, Non-Oxo-Biodegradable, Certified Home Compostable Bags.
“The miscategorization of so-called biodegradable bags is a case of industry greenwashing that has led consumers, and both public & private sector buyers and managers to mistrust eco-friendly claims,” said Achyut Patel, operations analyst for GREEN LLC.
More municipalities have steered away from the use of oxodegrading bags to the use of “cradle to cradle” composting technology – Redondo Beach; Rancho SanteFe; the cities of Coral Gables, Encinitas, St. Petersburg, Berkeley; and the Town of Banff to name a few. In 2020, New York will join California as the only two U.S. states with an outright ban on single-use plastic bags.
An April 5th CBC Marketplace poll showed 82.5 percent of Canadians believe governments should be doing more to address the plastics issue. BioDOGradable Bags is imploring municipal managers cease the use of oxo bags in parks that contain up to 32 percent plastic and an additive that creates microfragments rather than truly compost or biodegrade. On Dec 12, 2018, the EU instituted a ban on oxo-degradable plastic. This term refers to plastic materials that contain additives that promote oxidation of that plastic into micro fragments. The majoirty of Canadian municipalities and parks still use this controversial pet waste bag technology despite evidence to the contrary.
In Canada, resort municipalities in Alerta, Ontario, and B.C. are the first to explore alternatives to oxo bags. The cradle to cradle technology of GREEN LLC as the sole 100 percent natural science to date. These resorts have prompted three large wilderness parks to begin testing bioDOGradable bags as well.
