Straw size is one of those details nobody notices until it is wrong. A straw that is too short slides into a tall cup. One that is too narrow cannot handle a shake. Here is a simple guide to the straw sizes foodservice buyers use most, with the lengths we make in our Santa Ana, California factory.
Straw sizes at a glance
| Straw | Length | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Cocktail stirrer straw | 4.75 in | Cocktails and short glassware |
| Stirrer | 5 in | Coffee, tea and cocktails |
| Cocktail straw | 5.5 in | Mixed drinks and rocks glasses |
| Giant cocktail straw | 5.75 in, wider bore | Frozen cocktails and highballs |
| Bendy straw | 7.63 in, flexible neck | Kids menus, healthcare, senior living, everyday drinks |
| Jumbo straw | 7.75 in x 0.24 in | Fountain drinks, iced drinks, cold beverages |
| Super jumbo straw | 8.5 in | Large fountain cups and iced coffee |
| Giant straw | 10.25 in x 0.27 in | Tall cups, smoothies, specialty drinks |
| Smoothie straw | Made to your cup, wide bore | Smoothies, shakes and frozen drinks |

How to choose
Start with the cup. A good rule is that the straw should stand 1 to 2 inches above the rim of your tallest cup. Measure your largest cup from the bottom to the rim and add that margin.
Then think about the drink. Thin drinks like soda and iced tea work with a standard jumbo. Thick drinks like smoothies and shakes need a wider bore, which is why giant and smoothie straws exist.
Then think about the guest. Bendy straws are the choice for kids, patients and older guests who need to drink without tipping the cup. Short cocktail straws keep bar service fast.

Wrapped or unwrapped?
Unwrapped straws are faster behind a bar or at a staffed counter. Paper wrapped straws suit self-serve stations, drive-thrus and delivery, and the wrapper can carry your logo in your ink color.
Colors
We make straws in white, black and green as standard, and run custom colors for brands that want every detail to match, typically from 50,000 pieces.
